Photostat®

Photostat®
A commercial reproduction in which a negative copy, white writing on a black background, is made directly on photosensitive paper. The process employs a special camera equipped with a lens and inverting prism. The inverting prism causes the writing in the negative copy to run from left to right, i.e., in the same direction as in the original rather than backward. A photostatic positive, that is black writing on a white background, must be prepared by rephotostating the negative copy. The method is obsolete and has been replaced by various dry photocopying methods.
